Wow, it’s hard to believe that the first day of spring 2012 is this month. I want to share some fun spring news. On March 7th the tooth fairy will be visiting us at 10a.m. This is always a fun visit for our students. Also, as a reminder on March 2nd we are returning to our original tuition contract. This was discussed in the February newsletter as well as in a memo in January. Tuition is due on Fridays for the following week. On Monday a $5 fee is charged. Late fees accrue at the rate of $5 a day. On the fourth day a $64 fee will be charged. Lastly, on April 20th at 10 a.m. Teddy Bear Portraits will be here, more information to come soon. Thanks and enjoy the spring.

Thank you,

Assistant Director’s Corner

Well the time has come for our center to give back to a great cause. As I had mentioned in the February newsletter we will be setting up a donation jug in which all proceeds will go to Shriners Hospital for Children. What is Shriners Hospital for Children exactly you might ask? Shriners Hospital for Children has provided care to children since 1922 with no out of pocket expense to the families. Shriners Hospital for Children is a one-of-a kind hospital dedicated in improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. The jug will be located next to the sign in and out sheets starting March 12, 2012. Feel free to donate what you can and remember anything you can give helps.

Thank you,
Jennifer Cruz
Assistant Director

Teacher Updates

Infant Class

Olivia is growing and at a rapid pace. She can quickly change her body position from one to another. She can also, pull up to a standing position on her own onto to objects. She is greatly improving her fine motor skills; she is using her pincer grasp to get smaller toys. We are looking forward to seeing her develop even more skills. Have a happy spring!

Thank you,
Mrs. Jenn C.

Infant Extension Class

For the month of March we will continue to be working on our ABC’s and 123’s, as well as, learning about our classmates. All of the children are starting to sing along with the alphabet song during the morning circle time. We will be doing activities such as making teeth for when the tooth fairy comes to visit on March 7th, also, making leprechauns and pots of gold for our big boy Zachary transitioning to the 2/3 class with Mrs. Dusti. Even though we have one moving up in the world we have gained two more friends, Benicio and Amelia. We hope that they will stay with us for years to come.

Thank you,
Miss Emily, Miss Bridget

Two-Three Class

As we say “Good Bye” to the month of February, Mrs. Dusti’s class would like to thank our Mom’s and Dad’s who brought in goodies and cards to exchange for the Valentine’s Day party that was held in our class on Tuesday, February 14th. If your child was absent, please be sure to check their cubbies for cards or goodies left behind for them. While the weather is changing, so is our surroundings- please welcome 3 new students to our class; Kali Shironaka (age 3), Hunter Goddard (age 3) and Celine lee (age 2). They joined our class during the month of February, but Kali has been here since late January and missed our February news letter. Each one of them are quickly making friends and enjoying circle time and “outdoor exploring”.
On March 7th-we will be having a visit from the Tooth Fairy. She will be sharing some very important information with the children regarding the health and care of their teeth and gums. So hopefully your child is here that day.

Thank you,
Miss Dusti

Pre-K Class

Another month has flown by us and here we are in March already.

I would like to welcome two new additions to our class, Keeli and Isis, who are very outgoing little girls that can make friends very easily. The children loved passing out their valentine cards. I would like to thank all the parents that brought goodies and treats. Don’t forget to wear your green on March 16th. Since the 17th falls on a Saturday, we will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Friday. The children have been doing very well in writing their name and letters of the alphabet. We are continuing our “Hooked on Phonics” program since almost all my class will be going to Kindergarten next year and I am doing my best to get them prepared. This month’s themes will be Forest Animals, St Patrick’s Day, Pet week and Zoo Animals. We were very excited when Cyrah lost her first tooth at the end of January and since then she has lost another tooth.
If you have any concerns please visit me anytime.

Thank you,
Miss Joyce

School Age Class

It’s a brand new month and our school agers are ready for the warm weather. With spring around the corner I would like to have the school agers to start helping in the school garden. I would also, like to have them help me plan some new and fun outdoor activates. It’s a way we can all get together and show team work. I am proud to say that since our last news letter the school agers have been listening more and getting along a-lot better. So let’s keep it up. Throughout this month I would like to talk to the school agers about respect and what it means to them to be respectful. I am so proud of my school agers for making positive changes in their attitudes and becoming more productive with their time. I hope we all have a wonderful month.

Thank you,
Miss Brittany

Assistant Director’s Corner

Happy February! I hope everyone has had a great beginning to the New Year. Here are a few friendly reminders as we begin February. Please remember to label all of your child’s clothing so they do not become lost or mistaken for someone elses. Also, the children can only bring their age appropriate toy to school on Fridays. On any other day the teacher will put the toy up for the day.

Please remember to review the “Important Duties” section of the newsletter for your child’s class special activities and for the days the school will be closed. Finally, the classroom signup sheets for the party will be located in front. Please check with the teachers for important information on allergies concerning children. In the near future look for our community charity drive “Raising Change”, in which all proceeds will go to Shriner’s Hospital.
Jennifer Cruz / Assistant Director

Teacher Updates

Infant Class
Is it already February? Here in the Infant class, Ms Olivia, Princess, is know crawling all over the room. She is also standing and walking around objects. She is now responding to her name as well. We will be continuing to work on small motor skills and large motor skills.
Thank you,
Mrs. Jenn C.

Infant Extension Class:
My name is Emily Klose and I have recently taken over our beloved Jennifer Walkers position as one of the Infant 2 teachers, accompanied by Ms. Bridget. This February we will be on the letters C and D and will be learning to identify animals and the sounds they make, along with activities such as art work and sign language.. Although Avery has left us and gone to our sister school (San Juan Preschool) we have gained a friend, Emma. She has been a great addition to our class and we hope to watch her learn and grow in the years to come.

Each week it seems like Lex, Libby, Kay’lee, Bella and Isaac have learned a new word or phrase, Lex’s favorite is “what’s that’s?” Zachary and Payton are excelling in every aspect and should have no problems with transiting into the 2/3 class in the coming months. We will be having our Valentine’s day party on Tuesday February 14th. Feel free to bring snacks for your children. There will be a sign- up sheet on their folder about a week before. Lastly, I regret to inform you that the children’s beloved Miss Stephanie’s last day here at Mission Avenue Pre-School will be February 10. She will be moving onto a different career path. We wish her the best in her future endeavors and she will be very missed by the staff the children. If there are any questions feel free to ask Ms. Bridget, Mrs. Melinda or Mrs. Jennifer.
Thank you,
Miss Emily, Miss Bridget and Miss Steph

Two-Three Class:
It’s a new year, new beginning and new class for the 2/3 year olds. My name is Miss Dusti and I have just taken over the 2/3 class for Miss Desiree. It is such an honor to be instructing such an amazing group of promising young people. I have worked close with all of them for the past year as a teacher’s aide, and they all have really outgoing personalities that is sure to make an exciting year ahead! I do plan to continue with the curriculum that Miss Desiree taught: fun in learning with reading, writing and arithmetic. We will be enjoying both music and science but integrating some cultural learning as well.

With that being said we just celebrated the Chinese New Year- “Gung Hay Fat Choy”! I introduced this Chinese Holiday to the children, and they are busy making Lanterns, painting dragons and gluing together Panda Bear faces. With such a diverse group of kids it will be lots of fun to learn a little bit about everyone.
Thanks,
Miss Dusti

Pre-K Class:
Here we are in February already, where did January go! First I would like to welcome Hunter to our class, and he is already making friends! This month we will continue our name practice and alphabet recognition, along with our “Hooked on Phonics” program. February 20th is President’s Day (Also no school). Another fun event this month is Valentine’s Day. We will be having our Valentines party on Tuesday February 14th. The children may bring Valentine cards to exchange with their friends. As the day gets closer we will have a sign-up sheet to bring goodies for our party. Any questions feel free to ask.
Thanks,
Miss Joyce

School Agers Class:
It’s a new year and the school agers are back in action here at Mission Avenue Pre-School. We are focusing on getting into a routine and working together as a team. Each day our class is learning how to accomplish getting along with others and accepting new responsibilities. We are also focusing on defining our character and exploring new fields of, Math, Science, Art and writing. I cannot wait to see what this New Year will bring. I have a feeling it will be a great year for each and every one of us.
Thanks,

Happy New Year! My name is Jennifer Cruz and I have been recently appointed Assistant Director here at Mission Avenue Preschool. In connection with my responsibilities in the infant classroom, I will be supporting Melinda in some of the administrative duties. I have a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education and have been able to use my schooling and previous eight years experience working with children to develop teaching skills for all age groups. In the coming year I look forward to working with you and your children to promote their will being and scholastic growth.

Teacher Updates

Infant Class:
This past year has seen many of our Infants reach new milestones and I am sure there will be many more to come! Olivia is now rolling all over the place while laughing. She is babbling many different sounds and noises that will soon become her words. She is also gripping objects and likes to “swipe” at things that dangle. Brody is starting to crawl (or scoot), and is sitting up with very little support. He is responding to familiar words and enjoys playing patty cake and peek-a-boo. Hope you all had a great New Year and I look forward to seeing all of our infants reaching many more new milestones this year!
Thank You,
Miss Jenn C

Infant Extension Class:
This January in the Infant Extension Class we will be working on the letters A and B with various activities such as art work, music, and sign language instruction. Lex, Avery, Libby, Kaylee and Bella are all starting to talk and we hear new words from them almost every week. Payton, Zachary and Issac F. are starting to emerge with more independence and social skills. Our big boy Issac J. turned two and has moved into the two-three classroom. We know he is ready but we will still miss him. Also, Avery is heading over to our sister school (the San Juan Preschool) in Citrus Heights. He has been with us since he was six weeks old and will be sorely missed. It seems like they are all growing up too fast, but Ms. Jennifer W. and Miss Stephanie couldn’t be prouder and happier with their daily improvements. And last but not least please welcome Miss Bridget who will be helping out while Miss Jennifer W. is in school.
Thank You,
Miss Jenn and Miss Stephanie

The Two-Three Class:
The New Year is a new beginning for the two-three class! Miss Desiree and I will be moving to the San Juan Preschool (our sister school) in Citrus Heights. I am very sad to be leaving my loved ones here at Mission but also happy to embrace on this new chapter of educating my favorite people in the world- THE CHILDREN! I am leaving my class in the hands of Miss Dusti and I am very confident that she will go above and beyond for you and your children. Miss Dusti began volunteering for Mission in February and was hired by the school in May. We are indeed very fortunate to have her here at Mission! I will miss you and your families dearly; your children have become like my own! I will be back to visit and look forward to seeing all of you again. I am very excited to see what Miss Dusti has in store for you, your children, and their bright futures! Any questions or concerns regarding this change may be directed to Melinda, Miss Jenn C., Miss Dusti, or myself. Lastly, I would like to thank all of you for allowing your children to be such a big and rewarding part of my life.
Thank You,
Miss Desiree

The Pre-K-Class:
Welcome from Miss Joyce and her Pre-Kindergarten class. Another year has come to an end and we have learned so much. The children have been very busy writing their names, learning the sounds of letters, learning the months of the year and the days of the week. We have also been busy with our hooked on phonics program, giving the children an opportunity to learn the shape of a letter by using popsicle sticks to form the letter. Coloring in the lines is another project we are working on. Next year when my children graduate to the Kindergarten level I want them to be prepared as thoroughly as possible. It is not all work however. We have fun singing songs, reading stories, dancing, and playing games.

Please remember that Friday is share day and that this is the only day the kids can bring a toy to share with others. It is important to keep an eye on their cubbies and to make sure there are extra clothes available at all times. Remember this is jacket weather and as we do go outside (weather permitting) they may need warm clothing. We don’t want anyone catching a cold or getting sick. Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year!
Thank You,
Miss Joyce

The School Age Class:
School is out and the School Agers of Mission Pre-School are in… While on their winter vacation break they were kept busy with fun holiday art work projects and making crafty Christmas gifts for their parents. The rest of their day was mostly filled with outside play, movie watching, and playing card or board games. We know they like being on break, but secretly they can’t wait to get back to their friends, teachers and their favorite thing about school…. Homework! Not really! Our School Agers are all excited for the New Year with all their wonderful gifts from Santa. The favorite part of their day is going outside and running around with friends. Along with a new year many changes are coming to our Mission Avenue School. I have loved the past few months with the School Agers. They are an amazing group of kids and now it is Miss Brittany’s turn to get to know them and do homework with them. If you have any questions feel free to ask her and have a Wonderful New Year!
Thank You,
Miss Bridget and Miss Dusti

Our preschools combine learning experiences and structured play in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment.

Preschool is the first introduction to a lifetime of learning. Our enthusiastic and qualified teachers care about children and understand each child’s individual developmental needs and learning styles. They take they time to help each child learn and discover in his or her own unique way and strive to instill confidence in each and every one.

We offer appropriate hands-on age specific programs which help build the social, emotional, and intellectual development of the children entrusted to our care.

Daily activities include language, arts, reading, math, science, as well as motor skills and social/emotional/physical development. We understand that when we provide these activities at the appropriate level and in a nurturing environment our children will be well prepared take their next steps along with a natural desire and curiosity to learn more.

We encourage a highly productive partnership between teachers, principals and parents. We update our parents on how their children’s activities and learning endeavors are progressing at school via monthly folders, parent bulletin boards and open parent-teacher communications.
